Blackshaw Barns sits on a farm just outside West Kilbride, up in the North Ayrshire hills with the Firth of Clyde below and stunning views across to Arran. It’s exclusive use, so for the day it’s entirely yours, and it’s only around half and from Glasgow. For Kirsty and Neil, that combination of countryside, coast and complete privacy made it the perfect place to get married with the people closest to them.
Getting ready in the farmhouse
Kirsty got ready in the farmhouse, which is one of the loveliest parts of a Blackshaw Barns wedding. It’s calm, homely and full of character - the perfect ambience for your wedding morning. By the time the dress went on, everyone had settled into the day, and was ready to head over to the barn.
An intimate ceremony at Blackshaw Barns
The ceremony was small and personal, with just their closest family and friends and delivered by Connor who told their story with real warmth. You could tell he knew them well. Every laugh and every wobbly voice in the room was real.
West coast weather, Ayrshire style
It was wet and windy. Properly west coast weather, but it didn’t matter in the slightest. Kirsty and Neil braved it for a few photos outside, wind and all, and some of the best pictures from the day came from those few minutes. The barns themselves are full of warmth and character, with exposed beams and string lights, so the celebrations carried on happily inside.
Thinking about getting married at Blackshaw Barns?
If you’re looking at barn wedding venues in Ayrshire, Blackshaw is well worth a visit. It’s dry hire, so you can bring your own caterer, whether that’s a sit-down meal or pizza and a BBQ. It has its own microbrewery, Blackshaw Brewery. It’s dog friendly, with plenty of outdoor space. And it’s close enough to Glasgow for guests, while feeling a world away.
Thinking about a Blackshaw Barns wedding, or anywhere else on the Ayrshire coast? I’d love to hear about your plans.
