Edinburgh wedding and elopement photographer

Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world to get married in, and I'm not just saying that because I'm Scottish. The architecture, the light, the dramatic skyline - it's a photographer's dream and I love every chance I get to shoot there.

I'm based just outside Glasgow, which puts Edinburgh well within my reach, and I've photographed weddings at venues across the city and its surroundings. Whether you're getting married in a grand Georgian townhouse in the New Town, a medieval hall on the Royal Mile, or somewhere tucked away in the Old Town with views across to Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh provides a backdrop that's hard to match.

Edinburgh Wedding Venues I Love

Edinburgh has an incredible range of wedding venues. Some of the spaces I love in include those in the city centre, as well as those a little further out in East Lothian, West Lothian, Midlothian and beyond.

Edinburgh City Chambers. Right on the Royal Mile with a stunning interior. The courtyard is a hidden gem for couple portraits, and the surrounding closes and cobbled streets give you options if the weather turns.

Kirknewton House Stables. Just outside the city, this converted steading is beautiful. Rustic charm with plenty of character, and the grounds are gorgeous for portraits.

The Balmoral. If you're after something luxurious in the heart of the city, it doesn't get much better. The views from the upper floors are spectacular.

The Venue Eskmills. A beautiful, bright and secluded spot in Musselburgh, with a lovely garden and easy travel to the beach if thatโ€™s your thing - I couldnโ€™t think of a much better setting!

The George Hotel (Intercontinental). Stunning grand architecture, from the elegant Kingโ€™s Hall to the romantic setting of the Library, this historic building is very special. Itโ€™s also right next to beautiful gardens perfect for a wander and some ideal photo spots.

Why Edinburgh Works So Well for Wedding Photography

From the historic features of the Old Town, the lush Princes Street gardens to the panoramic views from Calton Hill, thereโ€™s so much to see and this makes Edinburgh a fantastic choice for your wedding. Within a ten-minute walk of most city-centre venues, you've got grand architecture, cobbled lanes, beautiful gardens, and sweeping views. It means your couple portraits can have a completely different feel depending on which direction we walk, and it doesn't take long to find something stunning.

Edinburgh's compact size is a real advantage too. Even if your venue doesn't have extensive grounds, we're never far from a beautiful spot for a some perfect shots.

My Approach

I shoot in a relaxed, documentary style. That means I'm focused on capturing the real moments; the emotions, the laughter, the details, the in-between bits that tell the story of your day. I won't ask you to do lots of awkward posing and I won't take you away from your guests for ages.

For couple portraits, we'll take about 20 minutes. I'll suggest a direction to walk and we'll just chat while I photograph. It's easy, it's quick, and the results speak for themselves.

Getting There

Edinburgh is about 30-45 minutes from my base just outside Glasgow, and my travel is included for all mainland Scotland weddings. I usually arrive at your venue or getting-ready location, so there's nothing for you to arrange on that front.

Let's Talk About Your Edinburgh Wedding

If you're getting married in Edinburgh and you want relaxed, natural photos that capture the day as it actually was - not as it was staged, I'd love to hear from you.
